Exams
You are never to work with another student in any way on tests. (PSYC 451 - Donahue)
You should never take “screen shots” of questions (for any reason) or record and/or transmit questions in any manner for any reason. (PSYC 451 -Donahue)
During exams you will be seated in allocated seats, your bags will be placed at the front of the room, no hats will be allowed to be worn, no phones will be allowed on your person. You will be required to show your ID when you turn in your answers and you will need your V number. If a phone or other electronic device is found on your person during an exam, you will automatically receive a zero on that exam! That is our class policy! Make sure to leave your cell phones at the front of the room! (BIO 300 - Golding)
Due to the size of this class, seating in the exam is close. Please think about your body language. Keep your eyes down on your paper and your body within your space. I will be watching closely for wandering eyes. Looking at the exam of another student will be considered cheating and will be reported. No electronics may be on your person during an exam. All backpacks, purses, and electronics must be stored at the front of the room during the exam. Possession of electronics during an exam will be reported to the honor council. Electronics include, but are not limited to, cell phones, beepers, graphing calculators, portable music players, etc. No earphones may be used, included noise-canceling earphones. Anyone found with electronics on their person will receive a zero on the exam. (BIO 300 - Golding)
You may use the reference book during the tests. The book must be a commercially bound copy – no electronic copies or self-printed and bound copies may be used. ONLY the original text in the book may be used. The use of any additional notes or other material – either written in the book or elsewhere, will be considered an honors violation. (EGRE 365 Klenke)
For tests, you may bring the “masterpiece” to class and one sheet of paper (8.5 x 11 inches) with anything on it you want. You may write on both sides of the sheet. The sheet may be hand-written or printed from a computer. Do not write on the “masterpiece”. (SCMA 302 Burch)
RE EXAMS: All exams are closed book. Exams will not be returned to students. Students will have the opportunity to review their exams after they are graded; however, students must return their exams to the instructor prior to leaving the room. Exams will be retained by the course directors until the end of the term, then shredded and discarded. Students that want to see their exams (1-3) prior to and in preparation for the final exam or at any other me during the semester—WHICH IS A VERY GOOD IDEA—should make arrangements by contacting the course directors or TA. Any and all reproduction of exams or their components is strictly prohibited. This moratorium on reproduction of exams includes, but is not limited to, taking of pictures, making videos, hand-scribing, emailing, posting to web pages, taking screen shots, electronic clipping, and verbal retelling.
Students taking exams can have pens or pencils and stand-alone calculators (i.e. not cell phones) at their seats. All other items including, but not limited to book bags, books, notes, note cards, notebooks, computers, phones, coats, hats, water or other beverages, containers of any kind, snacks, etc. are strictly forbidden. Any items that students believe they need during an exam (e.g. tissues for respiratory illness or clipboard for seating accommodation) must be approved by the instructor or exam proctor before the exams are distributed. Emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
In addition to pencils, pens and calculators, students reviewing exams with the TA or instructors may have paper for taking notes. Otherwise, the restrictions on acceptable materials during review of exams are the same as for taking exams. It is acceptable to make notes regarding concepts or ways to solve problems while reviewing exams, but otherwise the moratorium on reproducing exams, exam questions, or their components applies. (HGEN 501 Groteweil)
Collaboration of any kind is unacceptable and will be considered an honor code violation. (EGRB 102 Pepperl)
Any examination (mid–course, take–home, final, etc.) must be completed only by the student without any unauthorised external help. Classroom, open–book, open–notes and/or take–home examinations are all subject to the same Honour Code. Please include the Honour Code Pledge on your submitted work as discussed in Section 10 on page 25. Note, the Honour Code Pledge statement does not apply to the Instructor offering clarifications to students on the examination, as necessary. Failure to provide this Honour Pledge statement in your own handwriting, with your signature, and with a proper date, will — at the minimum — result in the automatic loss of two letter grades on the submitted work. (EGRM 515 Sexton)
The tests, and final exam are “pledged” and “closed book”. You may use calculators supplied by the Department of Economics but may not use any other electronic devices while taking the tests and final exam. You may use one 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper as a “cheat sheet” on each test and 3 8.5 ”x 11” cheat sheets on the final exam. You may not look at another current or former student's answers, keys, handouts, or notes, nor act in a manner that allows another student to look easily at your answers or notes during the tests or final exam. You may not discuss in any fashion the questions with current or former students until after the instructor returns the tests to the class. You should direct any questions you have about the tests or final exam to the instructor. (ECON 610 Millner)
No device will be allowed to be used to perform the functions of a calculator that has wireless communication capability. Any use of an above described electronic device during quizzes or exams will be considered a violation of the VCU Honor Code and will be reported as a Honor Code Violation to the VCU Office Student Conduct and Academic Integrity (http://www.students.vcu.edu/studentconduct/). In general, all you will need for this class is a simple scientific calculator, and your best approach is to purchase a calculator that is permitted on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam (http://ncees.org/exams/calculator/). No excuse will be accepted, even if you are only using the device as a timepiece. In general, your best approach is to either leave such devices in your room/car, or turned them off and put them out of sight (for example, your pocket, your backpack, your coat, etc.).
