Serve on a Student Conduct or Honor Board
Make a difference in the VCU community.
Students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to serve on the Student Conduct Board or Honor Council. Board members represent the VCU community and support Student Conduct and Academic Integrity in fostering an environment where academic success, civility, and respect are valued.
What Do Board Members Do?
Board members:
- Conduct hearings fairly and in accordance with university procedures.
- Interpret and apply university policies appropriately.
- Apply the appropriate standard of evidence when determining responsibility.
- Consider appropriate sanctions when misconduct occurs, with the goals of addressing the violation, preventing similar violations in the future, and helping repair its impact on the community.
Time Commitment
Hearings are typically scheduled Monday–Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Members should plan to be available for approximately two hours per hearing, about one hour for testimony and one hour for deliberation.
Members are expected to arrive prepared and conduct themselves professionally and respectfully throughout the hearing process.
Who Can Serve?
Students
- Must have no past or pending conduct or academic integrity issues.
Faculty
- Must have permission from their dean, department chair, or director.
Staff
- Must have permission from their dean, department chair, or director.
All Members
- Must complete required training each year of service.
